wow. so i'm never on this anymore. my time goes to school, trying to get to school each day, homework, and catching up on dvds that i have. oh yeah, and lost. last week i started watching season one of lost and had nightly marathons. the show is freaking incredible. my favorite characters are sawyer, jack of course, and most of the time hurley. i got no beef with the korean guy too. other than that i don't trust or can't stand most of the other peeps on the island. i have a complaint about its pg-13 quality though. when i'm watching, it's hard not to notice that the things the characters say are unbelievable. i appreciate the reality that hbo shows offer when it comes to the way people really talk. and yes, this basically means cussing. maybe it's just because i've seen a lot of hbo this past year, but the show would benefit i feel with a touch of vulgarity. feel free to disagree. either way, the show is wonderful and i recommend it to everyone within the viewing of this text.
i ran into adam reni a few days ago at costco while i was buying toilet paper. it was kind of awkward. i guess he moved to provo the day before and wants to go on a mission this year. we'll see if that happens. i think we should have him over for dinner sometime.
Munich (2005): what a long movie. and i'm talking long. someone, maybe spielberg, maybe someone else, but someone must have been extremely adamant about not sending this movie to the cutting board. it went on and on. there are, i assume, many things that i was probably supposed to take away from this movie, such as themes and morals and lessons and blah blah blah. but it's very vague, and aside from the obvious stuff about killing and israel vs. palestine, i left the movie not fully getting what i probably should have. i just don't feel like thinking that hard i guess. there are a number of confusing moments because of the usual elements that create confusion such as big cast, foreign characters, people who are never what they seem, etc. it ends up being very complex and i'm almost willing to say that syriana was more cut and dry than this. on a positive note, the assassination scenes are very intense. i was also impressed with the recreation of the stuff that went down in munich to set it all off. these were some of the best scenes in the movie. as far as the portrayal of jews and palestinians, i have no complaints. they are all human, they all kill, they all want their precious soil. it's no different than the reality of then and today. this is the truth and if people don't like it, then they are living in denial. the movie seems like it was a massive undertaking by spielberg, so hats off to that man for putting this and war of the worlds out all in '05. but it's a hard movie to sit through simply because it's long, complex, and slow at points. if i could do it all over again, i still would have seen it, but i wouldn't recommend it for anyone else. unless you are a middle eastern fanatic such as my good buddy ben. otherwise i can think of at least a dozen other spielberg flicks that i'd rather see.
ironic that tonight, it seems that hamas now controls the palestinian parliament. it will never end.
Hostel (2005): tarantino presented this junk? why? i guess it's not junk, but what was so great about it? the plot was really lame, the characters really dull, and there isn't really a point to the movie. the only thing i got out of it was if you want to smoke some really good weed and bang really hot euro trash chicks, stay in amsterdam. don't go over to some eastern european post-communist country that is on the heels of civil war unless you want your eyes burned out with a blowtorch. i liked the locations of the movie, but other than that, there was little thought put into the movie. one of the main characters was this guy who was the good one of the bunch and actually had some morals. yet his ankles were sliced and he died, while his 'bad-boy' amigo lived. why did they have him die? it defies all plot and character logic of a movie. if gore is your type of thing, then by all means see it. but i promise, stick with saw and you'll get all the gore you need, and oh yeah, an actually thought out plot. tarantino. i don't get that guy some times.
